Der Marshall MS-2 ist der wohl kleinste AMP aus dem Hause Marshall. Trotzdem macht er einiges her und klingt auch nicht so schlecht, wie man vielleicht vermuten würde.
Marshall ist einer der wohl bekanntesten Hersteller für Gitarrenverstärker. Das Unternehmen wurde 1960 in England gegründet. Musikgrößen die Equipment von Marshall im einsatz hatten oder haben sind unter anderem Angus Young, Dave Murray , Billy Gibbons und Dave Navarro. (Marshall bei Thomann)
Klein ist das neue Groß MS-2
Auch wenn der MS-2 alles andere als Groß ist, kann er doch einiges mehr als man erwarten würde. Betrieben wird er über ein Separat erhältliches 9-V Netzteil oder eine 9-V Blockbatterie. Durch einen Clip an der Rückseite kann man sich den kleinen AMP ganz einfach an den Gürtel hängen. So kann man auch mit einer E-Gitarre zum Straßenmusiker werden. Im Design ist er einem großen Marshall Combo AMP nachempfunden, während diese allerdings aus Holz gefertigt werden, hat der kleine MS-2 ein Plastikgehäuse. Der 2″ Zoll große Lautsprecher ist natürlich nicht besonders voluminös, trotzdem klingt der AMP wie ein echter Marshall. Er leistet 1 W, was aber erstaunlicherweise ausreicht. Man kann umschalten zwischen Clean & Overdrive Modes. Über den „Tone“ Regler lässt sich der klang etwas anpassen, aber zu viel kann man natürlich nicht erwarten. Der „Volume“ Regler erklärt sich von selbst. Neben dem Line-IN Anschluss, kann man auch noch einen Kopfhörer anschließen. Somit kann man den kleinen AMP entweder als Vorverstärker für ein kleines Bühnenset nutzen oder zu Hause abrocken, ohne dabei die Familie oder Nachbarn zu stören.
Wir sind überrascht von der Qualität des MS-2, der Klang geht tatsächlich charakteristisch in die Richtung „Marshall“. Das Plastikgehäuse fühlt sich nicht so hochwertig an, aussehen tut der kleine Marshall MS-2 aber trotzdem sehr gut. Alternativ zu dem Schwarz ist auch noch eine rote und eine graue Version in den Regalen. Als Geschenk für einen Rocker ist er bestens geeignet. Wem der kleine MS-2 noch nicht reicht, Marshall bietet mit dem MS-4 eine Doppel-Combo Version mit zwei Lautsprechen an. Der MS-4 hat keine Gürtelklemme mehr, dafür hat er einen „Gain“ Regler, über den man die Verzerrung noch besser regulieren kann.
"JONATHAN MEESE IS BACK" ist auf der Rückseite des Originals zu lesen. 436 Seiten, datiert auf "1995 bis 1997", arbeiten mit dem Thema der Serie. Aus diesem Grund präsentieren die Herausgeber Swantje Grundler und Thomas Mayfried das faksimilierte Künstlerbuch als autonome Fortsetzung des zeitgleich erscheinenden Bandes "Die Monosau". Manche Teile in "Marshall Marshallson IV" doppeln sich. Ein Motiv aus Stanley Kubricks Film "2001: A Space Odyssee" wird bewusst in Wiederholung gesetzt. Repetition, eine künstlerische Methode des Autors, ist Hinweis auf den performativen Charakter der Texte. Vor allem Typoskripte und Zeichnungen kombiniert das Unikat aus dem Besitz des Künstlers. Die Texte sind in deutscher und englischer Sprache handschriftlich verfasst und von Brigitte Meese, der Mutter des Künstlers, präzise abgetippt. Die Zeichnungen zeigen Gestalten, die zum Teil direkt aus den Geschichten zu stammen scheinen. Das Material wurde zumeist im Format DIN A4 fotokopiert, zur Doppelseite auf DIN A3-Seiten aufgeklebt, ineinander gelegt und mit einer goldfarbenen Kordel gebunden. Für "Marshall Marshallson IV" reizte der Künstler das gestalterische Potential des Kopiervorgangs aus: schwarze Flächen, kopierbedingte Verläufe und Unreinheiten werden zu Kompositionselementen. Für die etwas verkleinerte, detailgetreue Reproduktion gilt auch diesmal: Entspannt blättern und laut lesen!
